Specifying Delay Lines

THERE HAS BEEN a tremendous growth in the computer, television and radar fields. As a result, the demand for components that give time control over pulse information has led to the development of a great variety of delay lines; delay lines that find use in systems that relate electrical information to time. Computers, television studios, telemetering systems, guided missiles, navigation systems, identification coders and decoders, radar systems and video tape recorders are typical systems that use delay lines.

The selection of the proper delay device for a given application is not only important from an economic standpoint, but it can also contribute to the ultimate success or failure of a system. In order to understand and compare the different types of delay lines, it is first necessary to define certain parameters.

Basically, there are two types of delay lines: electromagnetic lines (http://www.ElectromagneticDelayline.com) and sonic delay lines(http://www.SonicDelayline.com) There are important differences between these two types. The electromagnetic line is limited in its time delay to rise time ratio to 250 :1. This limits the upper frequency response but the passband starts at d-c and extends to its 3 dB cut-off point. For long delays, or where the required frequency response is in the Megahertz range, this 3 dB cut-off point imposes a severe limitation and makes the choice of a sonic line mandatory at these higher frequencies.

The sonic delay lines can be broken down into two basic types: magnetostrictive and solid (ultrasonic) lines (glass and quartz). Both types feature very high frequency response and excellent temperature stability. However, their attenuation (40 to 70 dB), narrow bandwidth, and poor pulse fidelity has lead to the popularity of electromagnetic delay lines. Electromagnetic Lines

The electromagnetic lines are divided into two groups: distributed and the lumped constant delay lines. The distributed delay line is further broken down into two categories The stick line closely approximates a transmission line. It is fabricated by winding a coil (either a solenoid or a multilayer) on a rod (glass, ceramic or phenolic) that has been covered with a silver or copper coating. This conductive coating is the ground conductor. Between the coil and the ground plane is a thin dielectric layer. The coil provides a continuous and uniform inductance along the rod. The coil of wire and the ground plane act as a capacitor. The higher the dielectric constant of the dielectric layer, the greater the capacity.

The delay of the line, Td, is a function of the total inductance and capacitance (Td = √LC), as is the impedance (Z = √L/C). The stick lines generally do not exceed 2 μsec of delay and are limited in their figure of merit, rarely exceeding a value of 10, which requires a rod six inches long. Not all impedances are possible for every delay, due to a limit on obtainable capacity. The attenuation of the small delays is generally very low since these are wound with heavy wire. When the delays approach 2 μsec, however, the attenuation increases greatly and reaches a maximum of about 3 dB. The temperature coefficient is generally about 150 ppm from -55 to + 105 C. Sizes of the stick lines usually range from about 3/8" x 3/8" x 2" to 1/2" x 1/2" x 6".

Seven Summertime Solutions for Sustaining Your Music the Easy Way

Here in the Northeast, when summer finally arrives, you want to spend as much time as possible savoring every moment of the longer days filled with warm temperatures and beautiful weather.

It's been a long year filled with too many commitments, schedules, requirements and far too much rushing around. All you want to do is relax, bask in the sun, have fun and relish the opportunity to slow down your hectic pace.

So you ask yourself several questions like:
How can I keep my music alive?
How can I stay motivated?
How can I put playing the piano on hold for three months?
How can I have a good time without suffering the consequences?
How can I choose outdoor recreation without feeling guilty?
How can I afford to jeopardize the musical level that I have worked so hard to achieve?

Here Are Seven Summertime Solutions for Sustaining Your Music the Easy Way:

1. Listen to songs or pieces of music (on CDs or an IPod) that you play or would like to play.

2. Look at the sheet music while you listen to songs or pieces of music (on CDs or an IPod) that you would like to learn.

3. Organize all of your favorite songs and / or classical pieces into a loose leaf book or folder and play one or more of these every day before bed or first thing in the morning.

4. Read books and articles about music such as:

a. biographies of performers and / or composers

b. motivational material: heres a partial list:
The Inner Game of Music by Barry Green
Effortless Mastery by Kenny Werner
Piano Lessons by Noah Adams
The Art of Possibility by Benjamin & Rosamund Zander
A Soprano on Her Head: Right-Side-Up Reflections on Life and Other Performances by Eloise Ristad

5. Practice outdoors on a portable keyboard.
(Many work with batteries).
You can certainly play some songs, experiment with ideas, and even learn how to use the instrument's rhythmic capabilities.

6. Set a realistic musical goal for the fall.
Here are some examples of goals:
a. I will memorize one song
b. I will be able to play five songs well
c. I will learn one new song or classical piece
d. I will select 10 songs to learn during the year

7. Take some piano lessons during the summer months. Many children and adults benefit from receiving the guidance, encouragement and support that a good teacher can provide. Having some accountability without the normal school year mind-set can actually pave the way for a healthy measure of musical growth during the summer months.

Battery Chargers Keeping You Ready For Action

Battery Chargers are tremendously useful, allowing us to put power into rechargeable batteries and thus reuse them repeatedly without having to buy more for a long time. They are usually used in the home but variants can be found for power tools and various other devices that run on a local battery. The great thing is not just the saving on new batteries, but the fact that with spare charged batteries and the lack of need for a battery shop, chargers let us use our electrical devices wherever we need to and without a mains cable.

The standard battery charger is a box shaped unit that has slots for several household batteries. The most basic chargers simply put the mains electric current into the batteries, filling it constantly, which can cause overcharging and loss of quality if they are left in. They can also be found with timers that just charge for a set time and then shut off, preventing overcharging but generally only fitting the batteries they are sold for.

More advanced chargers monitor the current voltage of the battery, allowing them to see how much charge is currently held and only charge the battery as much as is needed. They can detect a full battery and switch to a trickle of power that just keeps it topped up, and should not overheat or overcharge. They can even be found in a super fast form, which usually has special batteries and a special charger that charges very quickly and has its own cooling system such as a fan. These are often sold with cameras and other personal battery powered equipment to allow a person more freedom.

Unfortunately some items that use batteries and stuck with their specific charger. Mobile phones are the most prevalent personal technology of our time, but they are charged by keeping the battery inside and plugging the unit into a wall socket with a specific adapter. This means that you need to have the adapter for full mobility. Some companies have addressed with charging kiosks that have a variety of plugs and let you pay for a single charging.

Buying A Used Car

While there are many good quality used cars out there with only one careful owner and there are also unscrupulous dealers out there who will swear that the car has only been driven by their grandma.

So when looking for a used car you should use common sense and a little judgement. Some of the main pitfalls which you should be aware of and which you should avoid at all costs are laid out below to help you avoid buying an old crate.

One of the most common rip-offs which is seen in used cars is tampering with the odometer. This allows the seller to change the mileage from a high amount to a lower one to make it look as though the car hasnt done as many miles as it actually has done.

You should always pay close attention to the dashboard. Things like lose screws could mean signs of tampering. Chips on the grille, bumper and bonnet could also indicate high mileage.

Always be on the lookout for any signs that the car has been cut and shut. This means that two halves of separate cars that have been involved in accidents have been welded together.

Bring along someone who knows about cars with you to the viewing as two heads are better than one. And dont forget to do a test drive.

The car should always come with documents and recent MOT certificates. If for whatever the reason the dealer doesnt offer you documents or gives you excuses for not having them, then run away from the deal as fast as you can.

Finally, a good way to check out a cars history is to have a vehicle data check done. This will look at the cars background and show up whether it has been stolen or if there is outstanding finance on it, plus whether the mileage is correct.

Settlement Funding Saves Financial Hardship

When carpenter Doug J. fell off a poorly constructed painting scaffold provided by his employer, his two broken legs wouldnt allow him to work. Faced with a workers compensation claim, Doug had no idea how he would provide for his family while waiting for his settlement. Settlement funding provided him the answer.

Settlement funding is offered to those currently in litigation. People involved in auto accidents, slip and falls, workers comp, and wrongful death lawsuits can wait years for their settlement. Settlement funding allows the plaintiff to access money from the pending lawsuit BEFORE the suit even settles!

Settlement funding has saved thousands of people from financial ruin. Just because the insurance companies can fight to the bitter end doesnt mean plaintiffs have the luxury of waiting for the settlement. With bills to pay, food to purchase and every day living expenses being compromised, a settlement funding can change lives.

Attorneys are becoming more and more aware of settlement funding and are offering this information to their clients. When an attorney has a financially satisfied plaintiff, it allows them to litigate longer and not accept the first offer the insurance company throws their way.

In addition, once a plaintiff receives settlement funding theres an opportunity to receive ADDITIONAL funds based on changes in the case.

Settlement funding is a win-win scenario for everyone involved.

Choosing a Replacement Window

When selecting a replacement window it is important to remember that the function of a window is not only to let in light. Windows have many other important functions such as controlling the flow of heat into and out of your home, making a design statement, and allowing fresh air to circulate throughout your home. As such, you should only purchase a replacement window with all of these things in mind.

You must keep the climate in your area in mind when shopping for replacement windows. Different windows are better suited for certain climates. Windows designed to keep heat in that have a low U-value are best for colder climates. The U-value of a window is the measure of its ability to act as an insulator. The lower the U-value of a window the greater its ability to insulate your building.

Additionally, you will want to consider the glaze of your window. Glazing your windows adds an extra layer, multiple layers help provide additional insulation in order to keep heat inside. The cost of glazing can be somewhat prohibitive, if you find that this expense exceeds your budget, you may wish to consider using insulated glass units for your replacement windows. Insulated glass units basically contain air pockets, which are sealed between two panes of glass. Some of these pockets are actually filled with Argon or Krypton glasses that have a very low U-value.

Homes in warmer climates should be interested in keeping the warm air out rather than keeping it in. In these climates it is best to purchase a replacement window with a low-E coating. A low-E coating helps reduce the amount of solar heat allowed to enter your home through the windowpane.

In addition to keeping the heat out of your home in warmer clients you will also want to choose replacement windows that will allow air to circulate within your home on mild days. It is very important to purchase windows that will open rather than those that cannot open, as it is doubtful that there will never be an occasion to open your window. Try, if possible, to select a window design that is also easy to open and close while complimenting your interior and exterior dcor.

While it is possible to install your own windows it is recommended that unless you have considerable carpentry skills you pay for the installation. It is much better to pay for the installation of one window than to pay for multiple windows as replacement for your replacement window or worse, end up paying for repairs because water gets in through your window or excessive energy bills because air escapes.

Copywriting With Google's Dynamic Keyword Insertion Tool

Automation is an odd creature. It usually seems, at first glance, that automating a process can make things easier, simpler and faster. But oftentimes, once an automated process is in place, trouble spots pop up. This is sometimes the case when looking at the copywriting aspect of Google's dynamic keyword insertion tool.

In case you're unfamiliar with dynamic keyword insertion (DKI), it's a feature of Google's AdWords program. It is often used for large campaigns in order to automatically insert the keyword into the headline of an ad. Truly, it's a lifesaver for many pay-per-click (PPC) ad managers who have to stay on top of thousands of ads every day. It's all done with a simple syntax command: {keyword:_______}.

From a timesaving standpoint, this is a wonder tool that has rescued PPC managers from the mind-numbing chore of typing the same keywords over and over. From an economic point-of-view, DKI *can* (not always) perform well enough to make it a viable option for larger campaigns. But what happens with regard to copywriting and eye tracking?

See It and Click It

The human eye is normally drawn to things that are unusual. Things that look out of place or different get noticed far more than things that blend in. For instance, on a page full of black text and black & white photographs, a small red square in the bottom corner will get focused on almost immediately. Why? Because it is completely different than everything else around it.

This same principle applies when considering your copywriting strategy for AdWords. When using DKI, you'll want to keep your eye on the results pages. Why? We've all heard that using the keyphrase in the headline pulls better. It does most of the time. There is an exception, however. This exception is what you'll be watching.

In fact, a study done last year by Enquiro, Did-It and Eyetools tracked users' interactions with the Google search results page. It found that surfers normally reviewed the page in an F formation. They would scan vertically down the left side of the page and then over to the right (where paid ads are) *IF* something caught their attention. That's the point we'll explore in this article.

In order to get clicks, you first have to get seen. If your ad looks and reads like all the rest, you've completely lost your originality advantage.

See For Yourself

Copywriting using DKI is a balancing act. You have to consider several factors, including the character count of your longest keyphrase, your ability to add text to the keyword-rich headline and how the ad looks on the page.

Take a look at some examples below. Remember that AdWords results show differently at various points throughout the day (and in relation to individual account parameters), so you may not see exactly what I saw when doing this research. I'm sure it will be close enough for you to get the idea.

Go to Google and type in the phrase "cruise vacation center" (without using the quote marks). See how all the ads look different? They don't all have the same words bolded. They don't all use the same copy. The bold words stand out because they are different. In this case, your eye will usually go first to the ads with bolded words in the headline.

You see ads offering a 6-night cruise for $xx.xx and other ads promoting X% off on a cruise vacation, etc. There is diversity and that's a good thing.

Now, what if you type in "home improvement? (Again, without the quotes.) If your results page looks like mine, practically every ad has the exact same headline: home improvement. Not only do most of the ads look the same, the headlines read the same. Your eye doesn't know where to go because everything seems identical. But wait! About four or five ads down, something catches your eye. It's an ad that has no bold in the headline. That stands out because it's different! As you scroll further down the page, more ads with no bold in the headlines pop out at you. In this case, because everyone else has opted for the DKI feature, their headlines are all very similar, making them less noticeable. But the ones who wrote custom headlines won out, thanks to diversity.

Tips for Writing With DKI

If you want or need to write using the DKI option, consider these tips:

1. Use a descriptive word along with your keyphrase. Instead of just inserting the phrase "airline tickets," place the word "discount" or "cheap" before your keyphrase to help it stand out.

2. For keyphrases that will take the entire 25-character limit, consider using one word of the keyphrase in the headline, instead of the entire phrase. Rather than "home improvement," try inserting just "home" or "improvement" along with other text you write yourself.

3. Keep it applicable. Your headline still has to convey a strong message about what the customer can expect at your site.

4. Test & Track! Everything in advertising is subject to change. Smart marketers always test and track to get the best results.

With a little forethought, you can develop a combination of DKI and custom-written AdWords ads that drive qualified visitors to your site.

The Best Flavored Tea Pluckings

If youre new to flavored teas, no doubt youre wondering how to choose flavored teas of the best quality. The variety of the tea, the country in which its grown, the way its processed, the time its harvested and the way its flavored all affect the way a flavored tea will taste. In many varieties of tea, the time of harvest is particularly important, and can be difficult to understand and determine.

Following is some information that can help you choose the best flavored teas based on their harvest time. Flavored teas come in white, green, black and oolong varieties, and all varieties have different harvesting requirements for the best flavor.

Green tea Flavored green teas have a very natural and mild flavor and brew to a pale green or light amber color. They are often somewhat sweet, and are described by many to be grassy in flavor. Many people who dont particularly like the flavor of plain green teas, love flavored greens, because the flavorings mask the grassy taste while leaving the lightness that makes green tea so tasty.

Green tea harvesters often pluck green tea multiple times during the growing season. However, the first pluckings, or the first flush green teas will always be the best. This is because this first flush is picked in the spring, before the weather gets too hot. Tea that is plucked later in the growing season has baked in the heat and sun before harvest, which compromises the teas flavor.

White tea- All white tea is first flush tea. White tea is, by definition, picked only in the spring, when the tea plant blooms for the first time of the growing season. The tea is harvested before the buds are fully opened and while theyre still covered with a fine white hair, which is why its called white tea. One of the reasons that white tea is the rarest of all teas is because it can be harvested just once during the growing season. Flavored white teas are not yet common, but they are gaining availability. White teas are the mildest and sweetest of all teas, and absorb the fragrances and flavorings very well.

Black Tea Most flavored teas are made from black tea, though other varieties are growing in availability. The best flavored black teas are also made from the first flush, for the same reason that was mentioned about green tea. Later flushes of black tea have been exposed to more heat and sun, and their flavor may have been compromised. The exception to this rule is Assam black teas, grown in the Assam region of India. The second flush of Assam black teas are said to be the best of the season. So, if you find an Assam flavred tea, look for second flush of the season.

Oolong Tea Oolong teas are semi-fermented, meaning that they go through a fermentation process like black teas, but for a much shorter period of time. Most oolong teas are fermented to about 30%, unless they are pouchong oolong teas from Taiwan, which are only about 15% fermented. The longer an oolong tea is fermented, the more it tastes like a black tea. Therefore, pouchongs are much closer in flavor to a green tea. As with green and black teas, oolong teas are best from the first flush, when the weather is milder and the tea has had more rain.

Oolong teas have a fruity flavor and a very smooth finish that pairs beautifully with many fruit flavors. When choosing a flavored oolong tea, be certain to check as to whether it is a true oolong or pouchong, if you have a preference for a tea that is closer to green or closer to black.

Some of the best tea gardens only sell first flush black, green and oolong tea. Tea gardens that do harvest their tea all throughout the growing season should label their tea according to the harvest from which it was plucked, so there is no confusion about which teas are the best of the year. First flush teas are typically priced higher than teas harvested later in the season.

To choose the best quality flavored teas, you need to consider all of the following elements:

* The grade of the tea this indicates the quality of the leaf itself.

* The tea plucking this is a good measure of the teas flavor, as earlier pluckings are more flavorful.

* The quality of the flavorings You should always choose teas flavored with all natural ingredients over those that use artificial flavorings.

By considering all of these elements, youll be able to choose a delicious, high quality tea, whether its green, black or oolong. Shop with tea merchants that specialize in only the very best quality of flavored loose teas, regardless of the variety.

Flavored teas are a wonderful treat. The combination of your favorite flavors with your favorite tea varieties makes for a great beverage, whether hot or cold, morning or evening. And, if youve never compared the taste of really high quality teas with that of inferior teas, youll be very surprised at the difference. High quality flavored teas are well worth the trouble and expense youll go to finding them!

The Psychological Reality of Positive Thought and Complex Thought

A whole new school of psychiatry has grown up around the development of positive thinking. The key is intercepting negative thoughts. Surprisingly, no matter how positive we think we are, many of us have internal, mostly negative chatter that ties up thecerebral circuits all day long. Much of this chatter is actually pretty idiotic if you stop and listen to it. Most of the time we're simply ripping ourselves apart. The more negative our mood, the more we're apt to nag ourselves. The science of positive thought can be learned through certain therapies, of which cognitive therapy is one example.

Cognitive therapy teaches you to catch the negative thoughts in this gnawing pitter-patter and substitute much more reasonable, reassuring, and, most important, more accurate thoughts. During cognitive therapy, the therapist uses various techniques of talk therapy and behavioral prescriptions to help the patient alleviate and change his or her negative thought patterns and beliefs. For example, a salesman fails to get through to an account on a sales call and actually encounters a very rude rebuff from the secretary. His inner voice might say, "See, you're no damned good, never were." He'd do better to catch that negative thought, judge it, and turn it into a more accurate reply such as: "Gee it was early and the secretary must have had a bad night. Her boss probably had a bad night too and she was taking it out on me. I'm actually a pretty good salesperson; I'll just try again at a better time of day." This is cognitive therapy at work.

Let's take a closer look at cognitive therapy as proof of the concept that positive thought does truly change the brain.

Cognitive Therapy

Cognitive therapy is based on the theory that people's emotions are controlled by their views and opinions of the world. Depression is the result when patients constantly emotional attack themselves, expect to fail, make incorrect assessments of what other persons think of them, feel hopeless, and have a very negative attitude toward day to day living, the world, and the future.

You may think that "talk" therapy is all nonsense, but consider this. Using the accredited standard PET scan, researchers noticed that patients who engaged in cognitive therapy had changes just as marked on the PET scan as patients taking Prozac. This shows that positive thinking on its own can change the way your brain functions, a true revolution in modern psychiatry. This "talk therapy" can be at least as good as drugs. Why? First, after repeated talk therapy, new and important connections are created between one set of neurons and another. That means that your brain is fundamentally, even if ever so slightly, changing. Second, even without drugs, cognitive therapy increases levels of neurotransmitters that battle depression and anxiety.

Cognitive therapy can change the brain circuitry, concludes Richard Davidson, Ph.D., after reviewing hard data. For example, it's been shown that in obsessive-compulsive behavior, cognitive therapy can produce changes in circuitry - actual biological changes in the brain.

Susan C. Vaughan, M.D., convinced of the effectiveness of talk therapy, has written a book named after Freud's phrase, The Talking Cure. "Talking changes the structure of the brain itself; the nerve cells end up with different connections so they grow differently and the new connections form new structures. It is through the change in connections that you learn and that's how you store information; that's how you make links between cells that weren't connected before and there's knowledge in that link," Dr. Vaughan says. So talking makes new connections between brain cells; experience changes the shape of and connections between brain cells. The cerebral cortex and the association cortex (in the parietal lobes) are mainly implicated in "talk therapy"; those are the highest level of cortex - they put together the most information from that part of the brain. After several years of psychotherapy, the brain may look different; but because changes are occurring between neurons, at a very small cell-to-cell level, they're hard to see. Still, these cerebral cortex changes are longer lasting than medications because you're changing the structure of your brain, whereas medication is only changing brain chemistry. In treatment of depression, the best results are achieved with a combination of drugs and psychotherapy, because the two are synergistic.

The Argument for Complex Thought

A new publishing industry has grown up around the concept of dumbing down complex ideas. One sees that in many aspects of life in America, where nearly everything has to be nugget-sized and simple, from our basic foods to our music. The dumbing-down effect would have us watching Seinfeld reruns instead of plowing through important new technological information, philosophical argument, or historical texts that could improve our minds and further our career. Our approaches to diet and exercise are so timid that it's a wonder we're not all hopelessly overweight and out of shape. This great timidity in America is transforming us into a nation of Iemmings. There is a much broader world out there - not one that is more intimidating, just more rewarding, a world that challenges us to master greater complexity.

Simply put, the greatest joy in life can be undertaking and mastering complex activities such as learning a new language or listening to and understanding a symphony or studying the classics or mastering an unfamiliar historical period. In Part One of the book, we looked at all the comparatively simple ways of improving mood and brain energy. No one, however, wants to be the happy fool. In fact many believe that happiness is a non attainable condition ... that we can never be free of yearnings and anxieties. But we can achieve great satisfaction by developing the positive thought that encourages us to tackle complex tasks and succeed. That hard work pays off quickly.

As we master complex thoughts and develop greater successes, work actually becomes far easier. Fran Shea says: "At the beginning of my career I spent a huge number of hours at work. I could spend up to fifteen hours a day working. But I was absolutely in love with my job. There was nothing about my job I didn't like. I had way more ideas than I could fulfill. I was lucky. I was in a business that was booming. I was there at the right time." Now she is president of E! Entertainment Networks and one of the top women in broadcasting. Dr. Richard J. Haier, of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California at Irvine, has used brain imaging to measure brain activity and metabolism. The student subjects in his laboratory were tested at the video game Tetris. These students were scanned during the first day of practice, when they showed great metabolic activity. They were scanned again after two months of practice. Although the subjects had increased their abilities sevenfold, the scans showed their metabolic activity to have lessened dramatically. So the study showed that the more gifted we become at something, the fewer circuits in the brain we use. In other words, we're able to do the same activity with less effort. While Tetris is not a sophisticated or complex mental activity, the experiment does show that success in conquering mental complexities is a case of the brain working smarter, not harder.

In future articles I'll look at specific steps to build a strong pattern of positive thought. Here's a brief road map.

Step 1: Be an Optimist

Learn the heart of a positive mental attitude by transforming yourself into a tough-minded optimist. This is rigorous science, not pop psychology.

Step 2: Seize the Moment

Shed your anxieties and the distractions that pull you from success by learning the skills of accomplished actors and committing fully to the moment at hand.

Step 3: Play to Your Strengths

Take a unique test to determine the way your personality is wired. Then learn to use that knowledge to relate better to others. Learn how to chase success based on how your brain is wired.

Step 4: Learn Emotional Broadcasting

By learning emotional broadcasting, learn to convert those around you to allies who will give you the emotional support and team strength you need to succeed. "Emotional Broadcasting" is the "networking" of the twenty-first century, literally changing the emotions of those around you.

Step 5: Look to the Hereafter

Learn prayer to gain an even greater sense of optimism and positive thought. As with optimism, the new interest in spirituality is based on firm scientific studies.

Step 6: Create a Blueprint for Success

This final step will help you channel and focus all your mental energy and positive thought into creating and embodying your life's story.

Stay tuned for more.

Experience Macau

Macau, a city famous for its tourism for the past couple of years, is exerting effort to further improve the industry and become a tourist destination with something to offer to everyone.

To advocate tourism, Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) has employed Macau: a World of Difference, the Difference is Macau as the promotional slogan and Experience Macau! as the theme for a series of promotions around the world through its representatives.

Macau as a World Heritage Site

Macau was recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) two years ago as a world heritage site. Macau is the 31st site in China to be included on the list.

As a World Heritage Site, it sets Macau apart from the rest of the cities in the region. MGTO intends to use this recognition as an edge to encourage not just holidaymakers but also business travellers to visit the city through improving its cultural resort with state-of-the-art facilities that includes large-scale convention an exhibition spaces.

Local Attractions

The city of Macau is abundant in historical landmarks and cultural heritage. It offers just the right blend of Latin and Asian cultures, making it a popular destination for every tourist. Among the renowned places to visit are the Chinese Temples and Religious Spots, Chinese gardens and Portuguese forts. Aside from these, the presence of glazing Vegas-style casinos is what also drives travellers to visit the city.

Where to Stay

There are enough things to do in and around Macau that would surely keep anyone occupied for weeks. Thats why it is better to bunk down for a while at one of the finest hotels in the area.

Grandview Hotel is ideal for tourists, local and international alike, whether staying just for a night or a week-long vacation.

The Perfect Way To Watch Your Child Grow

Many people ponder the perfect way to raise a child. Here are some thoughts to consider and contemplate:

"It takes a village to raise a child." - African proverb

"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One is roots; the other, wings." - Hodding Carter

"Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands." - Anne Frank

"Don't limit a child to your own learning, for he was born in another time." - Rabbinical saying

"The best way to keep children home is to make the home atmosphere pleasant -- and let the air out of the tires." - Dorothy Parker

"You know children are growing up when they start asking questions that have answers." - John J. Plomp

"I have found the best way to give advice to your children is to find out what they want and then advise them to do it." - Harry S Truman

"If you as parents cut corners, your children will too. If you lie, they will too. If you spend all your money on yourselves and tithe no portion of it for charities, colleges, churches, synagogues, and civic causes, your children won't either. And if parents snicker at racial and gender jokes, another generation will pass on the poison adults still have not had the courage to snuff out." - Marian Wright Edelman

"No matter how old a mother is, she watches her middle-aged children for signs of improvement." - Florida Scott-Maxwell

"Too often we give our children answers to remember rather than problems to solve." - Roger Lewin

"Becoming responsible adults is no longer a matter of whether children hang up there pajamas or put dirty towels in the hamper, but whether they care about themselves and others -- and whether they see everyday chores as related to how we treat this planet." - Eda LeShan

"People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child -- our own two eyes. All is a miracle." - Thich Nhat Hanh

There is no perfect way to raise your child. Just provide the support and love they need to grow and prosper.

Do You Need A Cell Phone

Many of you whom read the headline are probably saying of course I need a cell phone. For those of us who can remember when cell phones werent as popular as they are now, you should know what Im talking about. Now dont get me wrong I currently have two cell phones one for business and personal. I just think its getting out of hand with kids getting phones, and when I say kids I mean kids 13 and under.

Also people using cell phones as their life line. Its almost like an extra organ to their body. Even when Im driving at least 7 out of 10 people have a cell phone to their ear. Ok so whats the point? Yes kids are getting phones yes everywhere I look their people on the phones so what!

Well I dont think of it like that, I think of it as someone has access to me anytime and anywhere. Of course unless I dont have service, but do your phone is mostly used as safety use or as a tracking device. Safety is one thing such as they have new phones coming out for kids that you can activate live GPS on, and be able to track your kid where ever they are. Im going to assume this wont only be for kids but for some other things also. You can log in to your computer and see a live map of the location of the phone youre tracking. That can be safe for parents wanting to know where their kids are at all times.

Lets talk about tracking. Well as you know the blackberry is one of the mostly used devices in the business world. They are now coming out with devices that can track your sales reps, deliverers, technicians and ect. They will be able to have their employees input their daily numbers and spreadsheets. This will make business more efficient so no more goofing off on your route.

So cell phones are coming more of a tracking device rather than a communication device. Im going to say I need a cell phone, but not all the time. Their will be a part 2 of this article soon.

Quantum Leap (Season 1) DVD Review

Despite its short run (March 1989 - May 1993), Quantum Leap is nevertheless one of the more memorable dramatic series in television history. Although the show borrows from a concept employed in other realms, such as Highway To Heaven (with its theme of a mysterious force interceding to transform a single life), it adds a unique twist by utilizing elements of science fiction. Created by Donald P. Bellisario (creator of Magnum, P.I., JAG, and countless other hit shows), Quantum Leap developed a loyal cult following, making its short network run all the more difficult to understand

Quantum Leap stars Scott Bakula as Dr. Samuel "Sam" Beckett, a cutting-edge experimental researcher in the field of physics. Developing a theory that an individual can travel throughout the span of his life, Beckett builds the Quantum Leap Accelerator and uses himself as the test subject. But rather than traveling within his own lifetime, Beckett finds himself mysteriously transported into the lives of various individuals, each of whom faces a problem Beckett must rectify (thus changing history for the better). When he does, he can make his next "quantum leap" (which he hopes will restore him to his pre-experiment self). Aiding Beckett on his various missions is Rear Admiral Albert "Al" Calavicci (Dean Stockwell), one of the quantum leap experiment observers who periodically appears as a hologram in order to communicate with Beckett. With each new episode, Beckett finds himself in a new body, facing new circumstances, with a new mission he must decipher and complete if he ever hopes to return home

The Quantum Leap DVD (Season 1) features a number of action-packed episodes including the series premiere "Genesis" in which the audience first learns of Project Quantum Leap (PQL) and witnesses Dr. Beckett's leap into the particle accelerator. Beckett is transported into the body of an Air Force test pilot and a minor league baseball player, learning from Al's hologram what he must do with each man's life. The episode ends with Beckett transported into the body of a school teacher right in the middle of class Other notable episodes from Season 1 include "Star-Crossed" in which Sam prevents a college co-ed from ruining her life while giving her professor a second chance at making his marriage work, and "The Color of Truth" in which Sam is transported into the life of a black chauffeur in 1955, where he faces the virulent affects of discrimination and racism

Below is a list of episodes included on the Quantum Leap DVD:

Episode 1 (Genesis: Part 1 - September 13, 1956) Air Date: 03-26-1989
Episode 2 (Genesis: Part 2 - September 13, 1956) Air Date: 03-26-1989
Episode 3 (Star-Crossed - June 15, 1972) Air Date: 03-31-1989
Episode 4 (The Right Hand of God - October 24, 1974) Air Date: 04-07-1989
Episode 5 (How the Tess was Won - August 5, 1956) Air Date: 04-14-1989

How To Use Shopping Bots With Your Home Business

As an online business owner, attracting qualified traffic -- people who are already interested in buying your product or

service -- is fundamental to your success.

An increasingly popular way to get that cheap, qualified traffic you're always after comes in the form of "shopping bots."

And they're becoming more valuable all the time as consumers become more confident buying products on the Internet... and

become more savvy about researching their options online.

Shopping bots are like search engines, except that instead of just finding information, they are designed to help shoppers

locate the products or services they are looking for on the Internet.

In much the same way as search engines provide searchers with links to web sites, shopping bot sites list specific product

information so shoppers can compare features and prices.

The term "bot" comes from the search engine "robots" that comb web sites looking for information to index -- in this case

product and pricing information and direct links to the corresponding sites where consumers can make a purchase.

They're popular with consumers, as bots allow them to easily compare prices of the product they're looking for -- saving them

the time they'd spend looking through lots of individual web sites to find the best price. Some shopping bots also allow

consumers to leave reviews for others to read about particular products.

And because shopping bots cater to people who are actively looking to buy, the traffic your web site can attract through them

is extremely targeted... and potentially very valuable.

Of course, this means that shopping bots can be an excellent way for you to promote your products, allowing your potential

customers to find out exactly what you have to offer -- and how to get it.

Through shopping bots, you, the online retailer, can reap the benefits of...

* Relatively cheap, or even free, listings

* Exposure to consumers who are actively searching for your products and who are in a buying frame of mind

* Direct links from your listing to the relevant product page on your web site -- not just your home page

Popular shopping bots include Google's Froogle (still on beta release), Yahoo! Shopping, and Shopzilla (formerly BizRate).

And, with the news that AOL are about to launch a shopping search engine, it's clear that shopping bots are here to stay --

meaning they should be an essential part of your Internet marketing plan.

Some Top Providenciales Beaches For Your Turks And Caicos Vacation

A Providenciales Vacation in the Turks and Caicos Islands takes you to a place of beautiful white sand beaches, calm turquoise sea, a reef absolutely brimming with underwater life. The Grace Bay beach is undoubtedly one of the top ten beautiful beaches in the world.

All of this makes Providenciales a paradise vacation for families, snorkelers and divers

There is more to Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands than Grace Bay.

Grace Bay is a beautiful 11 mile stretch of rock free beach, but it is also the inevitable centre of tourism and hotels. It is a wonderful beach to walk along, or jog along, and as it faces west, a glorious place to see the sunset.

There is a lot more to see and do on your Providenciales Vacation, and a four wheel drive vehicle is recommended, so you can escape from the high season crowds. This article is mainly about the beaches of Providenciales, but there are terrific snorkelling and diving sites.

Long Bay Beach lies on the opposite shore to Grace Beach opening onto Long Bay itself. There are almost no hotels here, but the beach isnt as fine and powdery as Grace Bay, but it is relatively empty and because it is very sheltered there arent really any waves.

You ought to visit Little Water Cay which is the only place in the world to see the Rock Iguanas in their natural habitat and you can get a glass bottomed boat out of Turtle Cove. This makes for a great family day out, and the iguanas are incredibly tame.

Sapodilla Bay of the soft white sand beaches and clear turquoise sea is beautiful and well worth a visit especially for children because the sea here is so calm and shallow. Its a bit of a drive from Grace Bay but well worth the effort because of the gorgeous sunsets.

NorthWest Point Beach is white sand, very calm sea, good diving, and is best known for its tiki-huts that line the coast. The tiki-huts were built years ago for a French game show like Castaway, but today they sit around the beach, giving it a South Pacific feel. There are no facilities at all here.

Just south of NorthWest Point you will find Malcolms Road Beach and then south again Sams Bay. The road to Malcolms Road Beach is pretty bumpy at the end, and you will definitely need a four wheel drive vehicle, but the beach is stunning with fine white sand and almost always deserted. The snorkelling here is good, and there are no facilities at all.

Providenciales Beaches shouldn't be missed.

Diesel and Gasoline Engines

There has been a lot of debate concerning the environmental safety of the diesel engine versus the gasoline engine. In the past the diesel engine was a large polluter and was deemed to be very noisy and unreliable. This was one of the major downfalls of this engine design.

Today however it is seen that this is no longer the case. While the diesel engine continues to be more of a polluter than the gasoline engine in some aspects it is not as bad as before and in fact beats the gasoline engine on some fronts. The diesel engine has been greatly improved in terms of its efficiency and has reduced the oil consumption.

Due to the lowered per mile fuel consumption of the diesel engine it can be seen that the diesel engine releases less carbon dioxide than the gasoline engine. This is a vital point as the gas carbon dioxide is a great contributor to global warming. It is however seen that in terms of particulate pollution diesel engines are larger culprits when compared to the gasoline engine. They are also producers of smog forming pollutants.

These particulates are largely classes as soot particles and this falls into three major classes. These are particulate matter that is greater than 10 microns, particulate matter that is smaller than 10 microns or 10 microns and particulate matter that is 2.5 microns or smaller. It is a fact that these sizes can be related to the particular effects of these particles on humans.

The particulate matter that is greater than 10 microns is not as dangerous as it is ejected from the body by sneezing, coughing and nose blowing. Smaller particles settle in the windpipe and cause irritation and the particulate matter that is 2.5 microns is seen to settle in the lungs and cause serious irritation, mutation of tissues and many serious medical problems such as asthma and cancer. This therefore makes the issue of diesel pollution a serious and deadly one.

This means there will be more serious and tougher emission rules for the diesel engine to adhere too and the need for high tech diesel engines that use fuel that is low in sulfur. The benefits of this fuel may in fact however not be worth it as the production of the fuel will generate more pollutants.

There is however still a future for diesel as it will indeed have a role to play in the overall reduction of the production of greenhouse gases as well as oil consumption. The diesel engine will continue to be advanced but whether it will catch up to the technologies employed in the gasoline engines is a question that remains. The gasoline engine technologies in use have been ahead of the diesel engine in terms of air pollution and continue to remain ahead.

If the diesel engine can offer the same efficiency of the gasoline engine in terms of pollutants then it will be the engine of choice without any dispute. Until that time it continues to trail the gasoline engine even though it has better fuel efficiency.

Is it Safe For You To Join the Ranks of the Millions of Online Daters?

According to CBC, there are over 40 million visitors to online dating sites in the US and 7 million in Canada. Although these numbers may seem staggering, there are millions of other still who are hesitant to delve into the world of dating online. Why is this? What are the real risks of online dating? How can you keep yourself safe on and offline?

The first, and one of the most important rules is to never reveal any personal information, especially on a public profile where anyone with the internet can access it. Personal information of this nature includes real names, addresses, phone numbers, and any other sensitive information, especially banking or financial information. Contact information, like phone numbers and addresses should only be given to people once a certain level of trust and regular communication has been established. When dating online, protecting sensitive personal information that others can use to get access to money, personal files, and so on, can help protect your finances, and personal safety.

Meeting people from online dating sites face to face is also often perceived as quite risky. While there certainly are risks involved with meeting new people, certain safety precautions can, and should, be taken. For example, always meet in a public place, and keep a cell phone with you at all times. Tell a friend where you're going, and who with. It's also a good idea to designate a check in time, where you'll call a friend to tell them where you are and how things are going, and let them know you're safe.

Many people who stay away from dating online do so because of the perceived risks of meeting strangers over the internet. Though there certainly are risks to online dating, proper safety precautions and awareness of risks and strategies can help minimize these risks and make dating online a safe and enjoyable experience.

Understanding The Importance Of A Clean Registry

Most people do not know what the registry is, least of all the role it plays in the efficient running of the system. Knowledge of this will help them learn how to maintain a good registry.

The Windows Operating system registry is the most important part of a Windows-based computer system. This registry is never to be tampered with by anyone. It is by itself a fully automatic database that forms the backbone of the windows operating system. The registry is a system-defined database used by the operating system to store configuration information used to operate the PC. Understanding the importance of a clean registry using a good registry cleaner is very important.

All Windows applications record data to the registry during the installation of the program. The system components store and retrieve this configuration data through the registry. The data stored in the registry varies according to the version of Microsoft Windows and the years or months the system has been used. This is because as programs and applications are added to and removed from the system the entries are made to the registry but are seldom removed if at all. Because of this automation of the system the registry constantly grows. It may become so large that the system will slow down and ultimately crash bringing everything to a halt. This is why it must be cleaned regularly with registry cleaner software.

How To use a Registry Cleaner?

Registry cleaners are available in abundance on the Internet. They are free versions and trial versions of registry cleaner software. You may decide to try out a registry cleaner before deciding if you want to buy it. A search on Google will turn up thousands of registry cleaners such as Tweaknow registry cleaner, XP registry Cleaner, Win registry cleaner and the like. All these registry cleaners work fine. They can the registry for redundant data and useless entries like broken links and remove them automatically. All this is dome within seconds and the system runs smoothly and faster than before the registry cleaner was run.

The registry cleaner scans the registry for information that does not need to be on the system but is there nevertheless. This slows the system down every time the registry is scanned for information that is needed to run the system. The scan always starts from the beginning of the registry and continues until the data is found. The scan will include going through all the entries including the bad entries that serve no purpose to the system. There are tens of thousands of such entries. Going through each one slows the system greatly. Registry cleaner software removes these entries and then compacts the registry by filling in the spaces left by removing the useless data. This is how a registry cleaner speeds up a system.

New Innovations - A Fun Way To Create Them

How do you dream up new innovations? There are many ways. One of the most fun, though, is the modifying-word list. It all begins with the question, "What if it was...?"

You may have heard of this problem-solving, idea-generating technique before. The basic idea is to start with a particular problem or product and ask "What if it was bigger... smaller... cheaper... more expensive... less complicated... more complicated... more colorful?" and so on. The words are from a list that you work your way through for each problem or invention.

This is an easy way to come up with ideas for new innovations. Suppose you make refrigerators, for example, and need a new product. You ask "What if it was smaller?" A thermos-sized cooler operated by a small battery comes to mind. "What if it was cooler?" makes you think about the fact that the heat removed blows into the room, fighting against the air conditioning in the summer. Perhaps you could design a refrigerator that vents the hot air outside. Each word has the potential to give you a new idea.

What if you don't have a specific problem or project in mind, though? What if you are just looking for a new innovation in any areas to work on, or you just like to invent things as a mental exercise? In that case, there is another way to use a modifying-word list, and it may be even more fun. Just start with the word instead of the thing or idea. Then apply the modifying word to everything you can think of.

For example, if you start with the word "easier," you just look around at things and ask, "What if it was easier?"

Lights. It would be easier to turn them on in the dark if they were voice-activated.

Plants. Sell a line of plants that are almost impossible to kill, for those of us that can't seem to keep house plants alive.

Democracy. Maybe that company that makes the "For Dummies" books should add "Democracy For Dummies" to their line. Perhaps secure online voting would make it easier than going to the polls.

Brainpower. Three deep breaths always wakes up my brain. I bet it would work better if I had a small and easy to use oxygen dispenser.

To get in the habit of using this technique, you can either use the traditional technique - write down a few items and create innovations in your mind using the word list. Or you can try this other version - pick a modifier, like "more common," and apply it to everything you see today, asking, "What if it was more common?" You never know what ideas and innovations will come to mind.

The New Innovations Word List

What if it was... easier... more difficult... larger... smaller... farther away... closer... sooner... later... softer... harder... poorer... richer... higher... lower... longer... shorter... certain... uncertain... newer... older... divided... combined... more common... less common... faster... slower... better... worse... cheaper... more expensive... hotter... colder... added to... subtracted from... unchanged... imaginary?

The list above is a basic one. You can start with that, but there are hundreds of idea-generating words you could add to it. Any adjectives, descriptive phrases, or words that can change your perspective can be potentially useful for stimulating ideas for new innovations.

The Copywriter's Secret Weapon Against Readers' Fear

If youre a good B2B copywriter, you probably do your homework before accepting any new copywriting assignment. You research your prospect. You research your product, and even your competitors products. And you know your product can greatly improve your prospects bottom line. No questions asked.

So theoretically, all you have to do is present your benefits, offer a proof element, show how the benefits overwhelm the price, and youre in the clear. Right? Not even close. Heres why.

Even if your product doesnt carry a 6-figure price tag, your prospect is still going to be reluctant to even request more information. The reason: fear.

the B2B buyer is afraid of making a mistake. If she doesnt know your company and has never heard of your product, your offer represents a risk to her career. Perhaps she has made a few similar mistakes in the past which have cost her. So you have to get her over this fear if you even want her to give you your most-wanted-response: become a warm lead.

One of the best ways to do this is through the use of testimonials. Thats right, use testimonials to overcome objections.

Most copywriters are taught that testimonials are merely the proof element of a marketing promotion. And while testimonials back up what you say in your B2B marketing message, you can use them for so much more. An effective testimonial can overcome just enough of a prospects objections to make the difference between totally ignoring you and requesting more information about your product.

Heres an example. Suppose your company sells walk-in refrigeration units to restaurants. The goal of your promotion is lead genearation. You know you have a good product to sell, you know your prospects will be concerned about mold growth inside your units. You dont have a lot of space in your ad to devote to the technical reasons why your product deals eliminates mold growth, so use a testimonial to handle the concern. Like this

Since our restaurants are in the Southeast where its humid, I was concnerned about mold contamination of our food inventory. But our XYZ Model 123 has been working round the clock all summer long with no mold growth whatsoever. Thanks, XYZ. You really took the worry away. Joe Snuffy, Snuffy Restaurants of Florida, Inc.

The benefit to this method of overcoming objections is twofold. First, it gives you a satisfied third-party who is happy with your products and doesnt mind your telling others. Second, it overcomes an objection that you know other prospects have without having to devote large amounts of copy to overcome it.

Testimonials can help you out in a big way in B2B lead generation. And while they are great to backing up your product performance claims, dont forget to overcome objections with them as well. The benefit to you will be greater response when generating B2B leads for your product or service.

Pitching Oprah Magazine: How to Get Featured in O Magazine & Instantly Skyrocket Your Sales

Getting featured in O, the Oprah Magazine, is like winning the Academy Award. It's a distinction that validates your product like no other publication.

In fact, getting featured in O helped raise one entrepreneurs sales by 60% in just 30 days. But that was just the tip of the iceberg. The mention brought much needed awareness to a cause close to her heart--breast cancer. Thanks to Oprah magazine the issue is now visible on a grand scale.

Knowing how valuable it is to get featured in O, you must consider your competition and understand that, just like The Oprah Winfrey Show, the standards at the magazine are some of the toughest in the industry. O magazine prides itself as a publication valuing beauty, courage, attention to the finer points of relationships, and people doing amazing things in the world.

Here Are 3 Things You Should Know If You Want to Be Featured in O, The Oprah Magazine:

1. Your product packaging must be beautiful.

If your product packaging and product itself isn't an eye-stopper, it's most likely not going in O, The Oprah Magazine. Jeanine Boiko of J9 Public Relations, who placed her client Bonjour Fleurette in the magazine three times for three different products, has this rule of thumb:

"For a product to work in O, ask yourself this: if you walked past your product on the shelf somewhere, would it catch your eye and make you stop? It must have unique, attractive packaging that will photograph well. My advice, especially to new business owners, is to not play it cheap with packaging. At the end of the day, it's all about the draw of your packaging."

2. Your pitch must be meaningful.

So, before you make a pitch, heed the advice of The Oprah Magazine Executive Articles Editor Dawn Raffel who says the magazine teaches people how to live their best life: "It's about realizing your own greatest potential and also about making a contribution to others."

Whether you want to write about yourself, be written about, or write about someone else, ask yourself these two questions:

* Are you making a difference in a big way?
* Are you making a difference in a way that is important to Oprah?

Genevieve Piturro, founder of the Pajama Project, gets a "yes" on both counts. Her charity gives new pajamas to abused and poor kids, many whose mothers are in prison. Some of these children never owned any pajamas, and certainly not new ones. When you think about children going to sleep at night in a fresh pair of pajamas instead of tattered, dirty clothes, it conjures an image of safety and home.

Pitturo scored big on two points: She tapped into one of Oprah's key areas of importance: abused children. And she created a remarkable endeavor that attracted many people's interest, given the storys emotional pull. It made me want to hurry and buy pajamas and donate money to this worthy cause.

3. Your pitch must be well-written.

What is the worst "Lie" in golf?

Let us begin with a few myth busters, shall we.

Myths -

1) If you have a perfect golf swing you'll have a perfect game.
2) You can buy a better game
3) Technology has lowered golfers scores

Most every golfer subscribes to these beliefs in one way or another. The entire golf instruction, training aid, and golf club making market bear this out. Golf magazines, tv shows, and article after article offer tips, fixes, cures and virtually every imaginable training aid conceivable to craft the perfect swing. All with the pretense of helping you play better golf.

Well has it worked? Let's take a look...

In 1978 75% of all golfers never broke 90 - so barely 25% ever shot in the 80's.

In 2004, a full 26 years later, after the advent of 460CC drivers with 45" multi-kick point shafts, cavity back irons, balls that prevent hooks and slices, and world class instruction from the smartest minds in the buz, that number has been increased by a wopping 3%!

Now a full 28% of all golfers has broken 90! But hey, let's cut the industry some slack, there's only been 90+ billion spent on golf equipment over that time! That doesn't include lessons or training aids! All that technology and collective wisdom and this is how far we've come...impressive, huh.

Seriously, any other business that produced numbers like these for their customers would be out of business! But the golfing public has an insatiable appetite that an ever growing horde of manufacturers and marketers are more than willing to feed.

Ok, do you want to pay me now or later for the moral booster? What? This doesn't get you pumped about your prospects of dropping your handicap by 10 strokes by buying the next training aid?

You mean to tell me you're not going to do that $2,500 re-shafting, ball changing, loft angle adjusting, launch angle increasing, club-fitting session you had booked for next Saturday? Hmmm, was it something I said?

As golfers we are bombarded with instruction tips, training options, and product offerings that'll have your head spinning faster than Paris Hilton after swizzeling a half dozen Crantini's.

So where's the moral of this myth busting story? Do we all just give up trying to improve? Absolutely not. We all need to fulfill that important human craving of getting better at what we love. Yet where we place our attention to achieve this goal is what has to change. Our core beliefs about what causes improvement should be based on reality not myths. They should empower us, not encourage wishful thinking and needlessly empty our wallets.

"So if it isn't gear that makes us better maybe it's lessons," did I hear you say? Certainly lessons are an asset and obviously accelerate your skill development yet they're not absolutely essential. Ask Lee Trevino, Jim Furyk, Chris Dimarco and countless others who are self taught. And I think we can all agree that there isn't much "pretty" about any of their swings.

Do you think any of them were intent on crafting the perfect swing? Yet if we look at things from a different perspective maybe they do have perfect swings. Why? Because they work! Golf ain't a beauty contest.

In the final analysis there is only one area that promotes the quickest and most lasting change in any golfers game. And what's interesting about it is this is the only area that doesn't cost a penny to use yet almost no-one uses it!

That area is the often quoted 6 inches between your ears! Your mind. The mental game. Using your mind in a strategic, methodical and focused way is the surest method of lowering your scores. Period.

If you want to run out and spend $500 on a new driver and another $1000 or more on irons to make you play better, feel free. You might be that one in a million that changes the statistics. I realize we'll all buy nice gear once in a while but we can't buy it with a belief that this will seriously lower our scores.

Needless to say, my articles won't be sponsored by Taylor Made or Nike any time soon! I don't help sell much golf equipment! No, my approach to lowering your handicap, improving your swing, and increasing your satisfaction leans towards inner change before outer gains.

True improvement only arrives when we first assess where we are in relation to our goal. Then we must take an inventory of all the things that have actually produced measurable results. Which means no denial! We can't hope to move our game to the next level by hanging on to a lie, now can we? If you do then that's what I call a real "hanging lie". Ok, that was a cheap pun but it was there for the taking...

Each and every one of us has the innate ability to tap our own potential and transform any part of our lives, including golf. We just require the right road map and a good compass to keep us on target.

It's time to wake up and smell the napalm or the myths that cloud our brains will keep us believing we can buy a better game.

How To Invest Your Money Safely

When it comes to making investments, most people know that there is always room for a possible loss. Stock market investments in particular are rather notorious for taking a rather well funded portfolio and emptying it rather quickly. Of course, that does not happen all the time, otherwise no one would do it. If, on the other hand, you do not want to take what many consider to be an unnecessary risk, there are a number of other investments that are reasonably safer, can still bring a good return, and are definitely worthwhile. Here are a couple of them.

A common phrase that is often used these days to refer to the making of your investments safer is having a balanced portfolio. This means that you are not putting all of your eggs into one basket. You know that some markets are a much greater risk than others, such as trading on the stock market, and so you put some of your investment capital into some that are much safer and less likely to be lost. This "balance," created by placing some of your investment into a variety of potential interest bearing accounts, should result in an overall gain.

Investments Depend On The Person

If you are a young person, then it should mean that you would be willing to take a higher risk (assuming you have some capital that may be lost). The possibility of the highest gains, unfortunately, also come from the markets with the potential for the highest change. This means that there is a much greater likelihood of a real loss - especially if you do not know what you are doing. By using the services of an experienced trader however, a stockbroker that has been doing it for years, you minimize the possibility of loss. But you should only invest a portion of your finances into the stock market.

If, on the other hand, you are much closer to retirement age, then you do not want to take such a risk with your funds. Instead, you would want to place your soon to be needed funds into a much more stable growth account, where the loss can be minimized and yet still bring a return in interest.

Stable Investing In Trust Funds

If you are looking to stabilize your investments in the stock market with something that is relatively sure, then you need to consider mutual funds. This form of investing places your investment into the hands of investors that basically do the investing for you. They watch the market, manage the funds, and make the changes necessary in order to keep your account growing. After you inform them of what level of risk you are willing to take, then the rest is done for you. They take your funds and spread them over a diverse sort of investments, and it gives you a much more stable package.

The Most Stable Investment - Bonds

Probably the most stable investment you can make is to buy bonds. The safest, of course, are the US Savings Bonds. These are purchased at a set price and guarantee a set interest amount in a specified time period. You cannot get much safer than that - and probably not much is safer than the US Government - investment wise. If you are looking for the highest stability available, then you need to take some of your investment portfolio and add some bonds to it. Bonds are also available from other corporations, cities, etc., but their strength is limited to the financial strength of the company. The longer the time period of your investment - the greater the risk that the company may not be around.

In addition to creating a balanced portfolio, you need either to become very knowledgeable about financial investing, or you need to seek professional counsel. Many people lose a lot of money every year simply because of unnecessary risks. These risks would never have been taken if they had sought counsel from someone who knows much more than they did about the market and investing methods. A truly balanced portfolio will also have an expert to help guide you through the many potential hazards of the investment world.

Thailand: homestays and villas vs. hotels

More and more people today seek fulfilling holidays at cheaper rates. The days of booking holidays at a local travel agent and disappearing on a package tour are dwindling, as vacationers turn to the internet to seek alternatives.

Renting a private house is becoming more and more common as visitors seek authenticity, privacy, independence, and originality whilst on holiday. And if such a stay also offers the possibility of direct interaction with the locals and costs less than a hotel stay, the attractions are manifold.

In Thailand, more and more properties are now available for direct rent from their owners on a daily or weekly basis. Thailand’s real estate boom has helped develop the number of villas and holiday homes available. It is in general a pity that these properties still tend to be huddled together in the mass tourism markets of Pattaya, Phuket, and Koh Samui, which somewhat defeats the original attractions of an independent holiday home.

However, looking more closely, it is not difficult to narrow down one’s search and to locate private properties for rent at highly attractive rates in original destinations. And in accordance with the Thais’ legendary hospitality, these villas are even occasionally rented out more as if friends – rather than paying guests - were being accommodated: meals are cooked for you, transport arranged, and invitations made to local ceremonies or festivals. In short, the Thais have realized that, whilst some guests may prefer privacy, others seek a genuine interaction at the local level with the country’s inhabitants, as they seek a memorable local experience instead of a manufactured stay.

Our exploration of Thailand’s holiday home rentals led us to several very different properties, and clearly, whilst the supply is not huge, the attractions of these homes, the hospitality of the Thais, the zing of the delicious food and the promise of sun all make these properties a marvelous holiday alternative.

We particularly enjoyed our stay at “Gecko Villa”. From the outset, their comprehensive website (http://www.geckovilla.com) gave full details of the property, with numerous photographs and an online availability checker. Our email reservation was responded to rapidly, and helpful suggestions made about getting to the destination.

Upon arrival we were met at the airport by the smiling owners and driven to the large house that was set in the middle of emerald rice paddies, sugar cane plantations and woodlands. The property was set on extensive grounds guaranteeing privacy by our own pool, and the bedrooms and facilities all lived up to or surpassed what we had seen described on the internet. The kitchen showed up our own kitchen at home, and the shower garden in the master bedroom was a delightful touch.

When we said we loved Thai food, we were delighted to be taken off around the grounds to pick our own herbs and spices – including strange plants that we had never considered using in the pot – before being shown how to make genuine Thai and Northeaster dishes. The owners seemed genuinely pleased to be able to impart their knowledge and love of food – and we were equally happy to have this cooking lesson provided at no cost!

The property was fully serviced and the rate we paid covered all our meals and even generous quantities of cool beer and fresh fruit juices. And as we were there in the mango season, we were encouraged to simply help ourselves to the fresh fruit straight from the trees…

It was rare to find a house deep in the Thai countryside, and truly off the beaten tourist track, that offered every comfort for a relaxing stay in the real Thailand. The Visitors’ Book was full of glowing comments and the many repeat guests bore testimony to the visitors’ enjoyment of their stays, not only because of the property itself but because of the genuine welcome they received.

Tips on booking holiday homes:

• Try to book directly with the property site. Searches tend to list global villa rental sites that generally take a commission on your stay, making it more expensive, and in some cases try to prevent you from contacting the owners directly.

• Look for an individual property rather than a house in a villa development. The latter are often managed by hotel groups and simply glorified hotel rooms – at hotel rates!

• Travel in the off season, but book early. Better rates can generally be found for travel out of the tourist seasons, but do make sure you book ahead, as when a standalone villa is booked, it is booked!

• Make sure the property you choose has a telephone and address listed.

• Travel somewhere new! Much of the fun of your own holiday house is the way it can take you out of the tourist centres to enjoy a more authentic holiday.

Airlines

Thai Airways, Thailand’s flag carrier offers numerous domestic flights, but savvy travelers will turn to the local discount airlines. These offer frequent flights at a fraction of the price and in relative comfort. Try Nok Air (http://www.nokair.com) or Air Asia (http://www.airasia.com).

Getting Sucked Into Social Networking

The 21st century saw the boom of the social networking industry. Online social communities have formed and flourished, bridging that space between and among people from different ages, race, and gender. Dozens of social networking sites are now catering to the hobbies and interests of millions of users all over the world.

Social networking began with Classmates.com in 1995. This sites goal is to help its members find, connect, keep in touch, and form a network with friends and acquaintances from preschool through college, from work, or from the military.

Unlike other networking sites that gained popularity in recent years, Classmates.com uses real names instead of screen names. It also has a rigid privacy policy - the contact information of the member is never revealed within the network unless disclosed one on one by the account owner to another member.

Another social network, SixDegrees.com, emerged in 1997. SixDegrees allows its users to send messages or post bulletins to a list of friends or family members found within their network. SixDegrees faced its early demise four years later, just as the Friendster online community was starting to flourish.

With Friendster, you can invite and add as many friends as you want. You can also upload photos, write blogs and reviews, instant-message other members from your network, and form online groups with those who share the same interests as you have.

At present, Friendsters social network has more than 40 million registered users. Until around April 2004, Friendster was on the top lead among dozens of other social networking sites. MySpace overtook Friendster in terms of page views, and many other social networking sites like Multiply and Hi5.

MySpace is one of the most popular websites in the Internet these days. Just like Friendster, it allows you to collect a network of friends and share blogs, photos, music, and videos with them. This social networking website is very much popular on English speaking countries, while most people from Asia prefer to use Friendster. MySpace already has more than a hundred million members in 2006.

The two major search engines, Google and Yahoo!, have launched their own social networking sites - orkut and Yahoo! 360. Most blogging sites also allow you to create a network of friends online.

The thing is, most social networking sites work similarly they all allow users to expand their network by inviting friends or acquaintances and to share information over the Internet. When you post blogs or files in your account, everyone from your network of friends will be informed of the update through RSS feeds. You also have the option to keep a particular post private to just a few individuals in your network.

Social networks are the best way to increase the number of people in which you are connected with, so if you are into business, you might as well get yourself into social networking to promote your product and increase your sales.

You can choose from hundreds social networking websites available in the web today. However, you might prefer to use a particular networking site in which a lot of your personal friends and contacts are already members. In this way, its much easier for you to expand your network and share the contents of your site to other users.
